By PIO Tyler Jones
April 1, 2025

Just before noon on April 1st, Rescue Fire Company and mutual-aid departments were dispatched for a vehicle fire inside a garage, the caller advised that there was smoke and flames visible. Responding units advised they had a column of smoke from a distance, an officer from a neighboring department was on scene and requested a 2nd Alarm and a Tanker Task Force.

Engine 1-3 had access issues getting to the building due to cars and other salvage debris in the way, a special request for wreckers was made. In the process of navigating the salvage yard, Engine 1-3 was stopped approximately 400’ from the building due to the access issues. The crew from the engine deployed a hand-line and a leader line to the front of the building. Tower 1-1 arrived and assisted with getting hand lines in service.

A brush task force was requested as the fire was threatening the woods behind the structure. At this time Tanker 61 (Easton) set up as our nurse tanker and tanker operations began.

A 3rd alarm was sounded for manpower. Mutual-aid departments from as far as Easton and Mardela were alerted to assist, as they arrived their crews assisted with fire ground operations. After the fire was out the scene was turned over to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.
